| Bethany Christian Church Outreach |
Bethany is currently actively participating in outreach through the paths listed here. In addition to these group service outlets, individual members serve people with a wide variety of needs with their time, talents and financial support. Bethany also makes a missions trip each year and hosts other activities with an outreach component . For more information, see Activities.
| Talbot House |
A residential recovery house in Lakeland for men who suffer from
addiction to alcohol, drugs and gambling. |
| Anchor House |
A well-rounded residential program in Auburndale that seeks to meet the
spiritual, mental and physical needs of young men who, for a variety of
reasons, can no longer live at home. |
| Lighthouse | Lighthouse Ministeries' H.O.P.E. center provides free
clothing, furniture, appliances, food and household items to address the
physical needs of women and children in Polk County while ministering to
their spiritual needs. Donations in good, usable, working condition are always needed. |
| Police Chaplain's Board | |
| Share Kits | Basic school supplies for children who would otherwise do
without pencils and notebook paper, or even drop out of school in poor and
strife-ridden countries. Watch for congregation-wide announcements in August. The Christian Women's Fellowship prepares Share Kits more frequently. |
| Health Kits | Info to come from Sally Tilton. A program of the Christian Women's Fellowship, which is happy to accept donated items. |
| Tools of Hope Blankets | The program purchases blankets, tents, bedding and the like
in the wake of natural disasters, outfits people removing landmines,
provides farming tools and distributes other relatively inexpensive items
that can make a tremendous difference. Watch for announcements in October. |
| Operation Christmas Child | Small gifts, school supplies and hygiene items packed into
shoe boxes for needy children around the world. Watch for announcements in November. |
| Basic Mission Finance | The ministry through which we participate in the mission of
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Supports ministeries in
North America and 86 countries around the world. Projects include
mentoring programs, youth intern ministries, low cost loans for
retrofitting churches to accommodate wheelchairs, support for over 200
missionaries in other countries, start-up resources for new congregations
and more. We support Basic Mission Finance through general giving and with special offerings over and above our weekly tithes and offerings at Easter, Pentecost, Thanksgiving and Christmas. |
| Week of Compassion | Disciples' Week of Compassion offerings provide emergency
disaster relief, humanitarian aid to refugees and other displaced people,
long-term assistance for recovery and development and support of basic
needs such as food, shelter, tools, medicines and literacy. We collect a special Week of Compassion offering in February. In 2001, our terrorism relief offering also supported the Week of Compassion Disaster Relief Fund. |
| Volunteer opportunities abound |
The needs are great and many types of opportunities are
available. We're happy to facilitate the match between your skills and interests and the many needs in Polk County and with organizations that benefit people in other countries. Please also let us know which organizations you volunteer for to assist us in outreach planning. |
